About RadioU
Spirit Communications, Inc. is RadioU's parent company, and is recognized as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization which receives no state or federal funding. RadioU has received national recognition for its commitment to programming and technical excellence in trade publications such as Radio & Records, Radio Ink, Streaming Magazine, and Wireless Age.
What we've accomplished so far
Spirit Communcations, Inc. launched RadioU in 1996 as a single FM station in Columbus, Ohio. Since then, RadioU has grown to providing programming for other stations through the RadioU Network, across the entire United States on Sky Angel's direct-to-home satellite system, and online.
TVU Music Television was launched as a 24/7 music video network in February of 2001 on Sky Angel and online. Since then, TVU programming has been added to cable systems and broadcast TV stations all across the country, with a potential weekly viewership of more than 31 million!
RadioU and TVU Music Television provide solid, uplifting alternatives to other radio and television programming aimed toward college-age and high school students. RadioU and TVU work closely with The HelpLine, a call center organization that provides services to those in need.
Where we're going
One of our goals is simply to continue producing a quality, effective product. We believe that our commitment to excellence and vision is one of the reasons this organization is so successful in reaching an audience that others simply cannot.
Our other major goals include expansion both for RadioU and TVU Music Television. We are working with broadcasters in cities nationwide to expand the reach of RadioU, and we're continuing to negotiate agreements with cable systems and broadcast TV outlets for carriage of TVU Music Television.
As we've said before, we're not interested in building a "media empire" of some kind. Only in reaching more people with the music we play and its message. In order to reach more people our radio, television, and online programming must become more accessible to potential new listeners and viewers.
